Join the Capital District Writing Project and CASDA as we welcome Dr. Shamari Reid to lead us in an exploration of writing, healing, and wholeness. Across the morning, we will consider how writing can bring us back to ourselves and strengthen our capacities to offer our best selves to our students. We will also be joined by local young writers who will share their writing and perspectives. You will have multiple opportunities to write, share, and connect with others. We invite school leaders, community educators, preservice teachers, high school students, and K-college educators of all content areas and grade levels to join us. Dr. Shamari Reid (he/him/his) is an assistant professor of justice and belonging in education at New York University. He has taught Spanish, English as a new language, and ELA at the elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels in Oklahoma, New York, Uruguay, and Spain. He is the creator and host of the podcast Water for Teachers. Shamari is also the author of Humans Who Teach: A Guide for Centering Love, Justice, and Liberation in Schools. As a scholar–educator, Shamari’s work centers love as a moral imperative in social justice education, and as a path toward culturally sustaining school communities. The first 20 registrants will be entered into a drawing to receive a free copy of Shamari Reid’s book, Humans Who Teach! Cost: $25 for teachers, education leaders, and faculty members. This event is FREE for high school students and UAlbany students. Space is limited! Register in advance. Participants can earn 3 CTLE hours by registering through the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center: http://www.teachers-center.org. Parking available at the ETEC Building. This event is sponsored by the Capital District Writing Project with generous support from the School of Education and CASDA. Questions? Email Amy Salamone at amysalamone60@gmail.com
